Every year around the month of September there is the World SUP and paddle board championship. It is a two-week long event that is full of paddle board racing and surfing there is tons of competition the best of the best come from all over the world to Denmark to compete. There were distance races that took place the races were about 18 kilometers long paddlers would paddle as fast as they could to be crowned the champion of the race. There was also sprint races these races were only 200 meters in distance as paddlers would try and get to the finish line the fastest. The competition also held technical races in these races paddle boards would not use oars to accelerate their boards through the water they would use their arms as they were on their knees during the race.
There weren’t just single person events taking place there was also team relay races this was the final event in the competition and Groups from different countries got to take part in the relay races. Each group was competing for the golf, silver, bronze, and copper medals. In the end the team from Australia ended up winning the gold and France won the silver, New Zealand won the Bronze, and Hawaii won the copper. Countries like USA, Brazil, Denmark, Italy, Japan, and South Africa didn’t place high enough to win any medals. The competition was very tough with all teams fighting for a shot at the prized gold medal.
There was also SUP surfing that took place as well there was several rounds of the SUP surfing as the they battled it out in some unfavorable conditions that didn’t give the best waves surfers would have wanted regard the person who ended up taking home the gold was A man named Luiz Diniz from Brazil.
